Project Overview & Scope
Galcon Contractors was engaged to construct a new 800m² concrete car park for Ballan Medical Centre. The works were carried out in accordance with local council building codes and tailored to suit both general use and heavy vehicle access, including ambulances and service vehicles.
Approach
The project began with a detailed site inspection and planning phase. We assessed the layout, selected durable materials, and scheduled works to minimise disruption to medical centre operations.
Site preparation involved levelling the area and installing a sub-base to ensure a stable foundation. We incorporated drainage measures to prevent water pooling and ensure long-term performance. Once the formwork and reinforcement were in place, we poured the concrete and completed the surface with appropriate curing, line marking, and signage.
The car park was designed to handle a wide range of vehicle loads. Our team used a high-strength concrete mix capable of withstanding frequent use, heavy traffic, and exposure to weather conditions without compromising surface integrity.
Challenges
Tight Timeline: The works needed to be completed quickly to avoid disruption to staff and patients. With an experienced team and specialised equipment, we managed framing, pouring, curing, and finishing efficiently to meet the deadline.
Functional and Compliant Design: The car park had to meet the client’s specifications while complying with local safety and building standards. Our team drew on extensive commercial concreting experience to deliver a durable, accessible layout with clear vehicle flow and user-friendly access to the facility which surpassed expectations.
